Ardent Performing Arts Presents: The Sound of Music A musical with music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein and a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. It is based on the 1949 memoir of Maria von Trapp, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers. The original Broadway production, starring Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel opened in 1959 and won five Tony awards, including Best Musical, out of nine nominations. The famous story is about Maria, an aspiring nun, who is sent as a governess to take care of seven motherless children. Soon her jovial and loving nature tames their hearts and the children become fond of her. Performances are from Saturday 27 July to Sunday 4 August. Nightly Tuesday to Saturday at 7.30pm with matinee performances on Sunday 28 July, Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 August at 2pm. Ticket prices from $15 to $40.
