Restore Hibiscus & Bays Community Planting Day
June 26 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm NZST
Restore Hibiscus & Bays Community Planting Day – Kath Hopper Drive, Orewa
We have plenty of native trees, shrubs and grasses to plant this planting season and we would love for you to come along and help us. Bring along your friends and family as well, as everyone is welcome.
The site is a special one – it is a saltmarsh and classified both as a terrestrial Significant Ecological Area (SEA) and a Biodiversity Focus Area (BFA), and is contiguous with the Orewa Estuary, (a marine SEA). These classifications tell us that this site is deemed to be particularly ecologically important and warrants careful management, to protect the indigenous biodiversity present. We are excited to be planting 1000 plants including trees and grasses that will provide native habitat for at-risk species such as banded rail and fernbirds, as well as nursery habitat for native fish.
Where to meet: 72 Kath Hopper Drive, Orewa.
What to bring/wear: gardening gloves, water bottle, snacks, raincoat, sunblock, sturdy shoes/boots. Please bring a clean spade if you can
You don’t need to commit to coming for the whole session time, you can come whenever you would like and for as long as you would like to join.
